Amazon.com Product Description The TS-SWX310 "ready-to-play" subwoofer enclosure is pre-loaded with one 12-inch TS-SW301 subwoofer. The slim wedge-shaped box is built to the optimal specifications of the subwoofer and is perfect for applications behind the seats of pickups, SUVs or other vehicles where space is at a premium. The enclosure is made of reinforced medium density fiberboard (MDF), wrapped in high-quality black carpet with an embroidered Pioneer logo. | Pioneer's Shallow Series Subs Lean and Mean The Pioneer Shallow Series subwoofer derives its big bass sound from its innovative design. Although only 3-1/4 inches thick, the Shallow Series uses state-of-the-art, patented air suspension technology to create a tight spring of pressure that delivers a wide-ranging bass response. The result is a radically thin subwoofer that fits a variety of enclosures and gives your system accurate, powerful, and satisfying bass. "ib-FLAT" Known as the "flat" subwoofer, the ib-FLAT name is derived from the speaker's two most outstanding characteristics. The "i" stands for intelligent design and describes the cutting-edge air-suspension technology that gives the speaker its remarkable size and strength. "b FLAT" refers to its ability to accurately and easily play 29.135 Hertz, the sound of the lowest black key on the piano and one of the most difficult to reproduce. Musical and robust, the ib-FLAT boasts an amazing range, enabling you to hear each performance on a grand scale. Install Anywhere The sleek design and compact size of Pioneer Shallow Series subs enables you to perform great custom installations. The Shallow Series plays perfectly in both tight and hidden spaces, providing you with the same booming bass performance of a regular subwoofer. Whether hidden or seen, the big bass sound of these versatile speakers will definitely get you noticed. | TS-SWX310 Features Air Suspension System In order to create a subwoofer that is three and a quarter inches deep, Pioneer had to develop revolutionary subwoofer technology. A traditional subwoofer uses the spider design to keep the voice coil of the speaker aligned while it moves. This type of set-up can become soft over time degrading the subwoofer's performance. Pioneer created a patent-pending air suspension system that locks air between a main cone and a drive cone. The cones move together in unison, with the locked-in air behaving like a spring. The dual-cone structure is a spider-less design that maintains better sound linearity, and reliability even after many of hours of hard use. The pressure from the trapped air results in a consistent bass response across a wide frequency range. The result is a tight, precise movement with powerful and clean bass output. 3-Layer Interwoven Radial Surround The shallow subwoofer incorporates an innovative woven cloth reinforced radial urethane surround for improved power handling, reduced distortion, improved durability, and louder, more controlled bass. The surround is constructed of three layers--two of urethane and one of interwoven cloth. The interwoven cloth distributes strength throughout the surround material and improving its high power capability. The result is an extremely durable and resilient surround that resists puckering, even under intense power conditions. Unlike traditional surrounds that use a single arch shape design, the Pioneer Shallow Subwoofer utilizes a patent-pending M-shape surround that provides superior sound linearity. M-Shaped Surround The M-shape surround also has a lower height, and a lower fc or tuning frequency. The lower fc threshold translates to better and longer performance at lower frequencies. Angled Push Terminals Traditional subwoofer terminals are mounted horizontally or vertically. These mounts force wires to be bent to fit which can be difficult if low-gauge high performance wires are used. The Pioneer shallow subwoofer's patent-pending, angled push terminals make it easy to connect speaker wires. The straighter connection saves space and makes installation easier. Fin-Shaped Basket Traditional subwoofers push air downward. This creates a "loading effect' or area of pressure underneath the speaker which hampers performance and responsiveness. The rear of the powerful and slim Pioneer shallow subwoofer is designed with specially-shaped fins that channel the airflow sideways instead of downward. Air is continuously pushed in a circular motion, eliminating the "loading effect" or unwanted pressure of air behind the cone. |

Perfect if you don't have much room in the car!! November 9, 2008 Anders Culver (Waconia, Minnesota) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I got this sub for my '94 Toyota truck, it's got that little cab behind the front seats, so I wasn't dealing with a bunch of extra space but I was redoing my stereo system and decided I wanted a sub too. I did my research and chose this one due to its size and other reviews that I had read elsewhere. The price is slightly steep but it eliminates the need to make a box for it so it was worth it for me. I bought it and it arrived promptly and I paired it with an Alpine MRP-M500 amp and this thing pounds! I can't turn my stereo up past 35 because it starts to hurt and that's without any bass boost from the amp!! It's crazy, it does rap bass and band type bass with perfect clarity and no distortion even when I turn the volume up to 50. It shakes all three of my mirrors on the truck. If you want a sub with decent power that hits hard while still sounding nice, this is a very nice option.
Very Nice Sub. April 24, 2009 K. barrett 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am not a professional re-viewer, but I do (like everyone) have an opinion here. Like all stereo products, listening is the best way to buy. Our good or bad recommendations are based on that, and your results may vary. Now I have this sub. I bought mine because in my 04 Sebring this sub fits perfectly in the "Cubby-hole" area and still leaves me with trunk space for golf clubs (if you have one of these, you will understand). I pumped in a mono class d amp and it rocked. No, I would not win a "shatter my windows competition" from the $500 Honda, with $3,000 rims, and $3,500 in subs in the next lane, but it sounded really, really nice. It filled out the sound stage perfectly and did thump really nicely. I would recommend this sub, but make sure your purchase a good amp to properly drive it.
Great Sound, Perfect Size March 18, 2009 Edward Johnson (Atlanta) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I installed these subs behind the back seat of my 2008 Toyota Tundra Crew Max and it was like the box was custom made for the space. I attached it to a 760x2 pioneer amp, unbridged, and it hit hard. If I wanted to, I could bridge the amp and double the power, but that would just be obnoxious. I like the amount of bass I get, and the clarity is perfect. I listen to rap, hard rock, bluegrass, blues, and oldies and everything sounds good with this sub. I would defnitely recommend it, especially for tight spaces.

I got to compare this sub setup with a Kicker model that was similar. This Pioneer blew the Kicker away and it was cheaper. I run this unit with an inexpensive Crunch 1100. For a regular cab Silverado it rattles anything that's loose and puts out some good sound pressure. I listen to alternative Christian rock if that helps. POD,Skillet,12 Stones,Decemberadio,Seventh Day Slumber....
Great for anyone with simple taste. August 11, 2009 J. Bell (Spokane, WA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I installed this sub with a 1000w Rockford amp and I have to say it bumps hard. If you're looking for a plethora of bass this would not be the sub for you though. You should spend some bucks on a Kicker, JL, or monster sub of that stature. I have a feeling that with this Pioneer's air suspension technology that it will be around for quite a while, and it will remained tucked behind my back seat, taking virtually no space at all.
In all, if you want big bass from a super shallow sub, this is the way to go. It doesn't get in the way, and it puts out enough (with the right amp) to shake your mirrors and turn a couple heads.
